EPropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus vs. ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo

Wondering whether to choose the Plus or the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Evo? While the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus utilizes a reliable tiller control and is highly affordable, the Evo model includes hydrogeneration and remote steering capabilities. Both share the exact same robust 1kW motor, durability, and battery compatibility.

How to Find Your Correct Shaft Length

Choosing the right fit is crucial for your boat's performance. The ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus - short shaft is one of our most popular choices, but you must measure your transom height properly.

ePropulsion measures shaft length from the top of the clamp bracket to the center of the propeller:

  • Extra Short Shaft (XS) - 20.67":Best for transom heights between 11.8" and 15.7".
  • Short Shaft (S) - 24.6":Best for transom heights between 15.7" and 19.7". (Note: Takacat, Aircat, Bris, and other fully inflatable catamarans require the Short Shaft due to shallow transom depth).
  • Long Shaft (L) - 29.5":Best for transoms taller than 19.7" (ideal for daysailers and larger skiffs).

What’s Included in the Box?

  • ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Electric Outboard Motor with Tiller Control
  • 2-Blade High-Performance Propeller
  • Standard Battery Charger
  • (Optional) 1,276Wh Lithium Polymer Battery (If selected in the dropdown)

Helpful Resources & Documentation

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long does the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus battery last on a single charge?
At full throttle (1000W), the integrated 1,276Wh battery runs for roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes. At half throttle (~250W), you can easily get 5 to 6 hours of continuous cruising speed (covering 15–20+ miles depending on hull weight and water conditions).

Can I use the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus in saltwater?
Yes! The Spirit 1.0 Plus features high-grade anodized aluminum components and a corrosion-resistant coating built specifically for harsh saltwater and freshwater environments. A quick rinse with fresh water after ocean use is all the maintenance it needs.

Does the ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus battery really float?
Absolutely. The 1,276Wh Spirit Battery Plus is IP67 waterproof rated and engineered with positive buoyancy, so it will float safely on the surface if dropped overboard.

How long does it take to fully charge the Spirit battery?
Using the standard included AC wall charger, a full charge takes roughly 8.5 hours. If you need a faster turnaround, an optional fast charger reduces charge time down to just 3.5 hours.

What size boat can this 3hp electric boat motor push?
The 1kW motor generates thrust equivalent to a 3 HP gas outboard, making it ideal for watercraft up to 1.5 tons including jon boats, tiny bass boats, inflatable catamarans, tenders, and daysailers.

Great motor - reliable, powerful, long-lasting battery

Use it as a 22’ sailboat kicker on a lake - reliable, enough power, long-lasting battery. I have a spare battery but have never had to switch during a trip

Looking forward to hitting the water!

I have replaced my old 2 stroke for this battery operated outboard on my complete makeover of my 14’ aluminum boat. I’m excited to get it on the water!

The difference is Quality!!!

Bought the Spirit 1.0 plus to replace 2 Minn Kota 55 lb. thrust moters on the back of my 14/48 ft. Modified V Alumicraft jon boat.
I did this at the hope of doubling my speed from 3 miles per hr. to maybe 6 mph. My 14 ft. is wider with clip on bench seats. Haven't hit 6mph yet but its in the high 5's & I'm totally happy with that!!! Also run time up here in Maryland's reservoirs is amazing!!!
Running at 500 watts ( half of full throttle) I can go from 1 hr 15 min. to over 3 hrs!!! Amazing and im still running faster than i was before!!!
One of the best parts of this motor has to be the QUALITY of the motor.
It just not only looks quality, but it just feels quality from the prop to the handle itself!!! Well made!@$!
Sum it up, I love this toy!!!

Exceeding all expectations

I live on an island in Puget Sound where currents from tidal exchanges can be substantial and there is always a breeze. I have a 16' rowboat and frequently a pleasant day of rowing ends with a slog back to port against the current or the wind...often both. The Spirit 1.0 provides me with the comfort and assurance of a safe return. It silently pushes my boat - with a total displacement of 650 pounds - at a speed of 3 knots while only expending about 130 watts. Truly fabulous.

Excellent Product

Excellent product. Charge lasts a long time. Relatively light weight; very good propulsion; used on a 12 foot lake / bass jon boat

Perfect little motor

Attached to a true kit discovery 330 and it pushes right along around 5 knots. The convenience is perfect. Drop it down to 4 knots and I can cruise around for hours. I store the boat and motor in an apartment in NYC. A gas motor would make it fun to be able to fly around at 15+ MPH but dealing with gas would be a huge PITA and I’m happier than I thought I’d be just cruising around at a light jog. Plus the lack of noise… A silent cruise along the back bays at sunset—priceless. It’ll be perfect once the boat becomes a dinghy a couple years down the line. Again, no gas to worry about storing on the boat and no maintenance.

Went for the first motor only cruise against 15 knots

Went for the first motor only cruise against 15 knots, pushed my 19', 1400 lb sail boat fine, close to a mile out and back using 1/2 battery, not a full throttle but more than half throttle.

Powerful and quiet

Using this on an Isle micro skiff inflatable. Still working on a suitable motor mount, but this will real push the boat. Love how the throttle and steering direction stay set so you don’t need to constantly have your hand on the tiller. Yes, I’m going very slowly when doing so, but it beats sitting in a twisted position.

Unapologetically Exactly What It Says It Is

Unapologetically exactly what it says it is:

- Low/no maintenance
- Easily stowed and deployed and packed away
- Powerful, not fast
- Lightweight
- Great to cruise a small vessel under 6mph and save on a trolling motor.

On my 12 rowboat, I'm fishing with ease. No tank taking up previous space, the battery is the cowl. I would buy this again for a small craft. It's perfect for me, I'm not a bass tournament guy where speed matters. 🐟

Replacement for 3hp outboard

My 12 year old outboard failed to start this year. I replaced it with an EPropulsion Spirit 1.0 electric. It is so nice to be able to put the fob in place and turn the handle to get going. The new motor is light and easy to use.

Just what I needed!

I have a 14' jon boat that I use to fish a 350 acre lake. Up to now I have used my Minnkota trolling motor to get around. This year, I decided to get a small outboard to allow my to get to different spots more quickly. After looking a several 5-8 h.p. gas motors, of course the Internet decided to show me all kinds of stuff related to my searches. One such thing was the EPropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus 3HP Electric Outboard Motor. I found a YouTube vid that compared 3 different Emotors, and the Epropulsion was the clear winner. Although it is very expensive, it checks all the boxes for me: I doesn't require winterization; I don't have to smell my car and garage with gas cans; it's relatively light, especially as the battery detaches; and it's very quiet and non-polluting. it's as fast as I need, given the size of my lake, and I get two or three outings on a charge. i'm hoping it'll do well in the longevity department.

Met or exceeded my expectations

Build quality and ease of use is very good. Speed pushing my 15 foot Rangeley with two adults on board met my expectations, getting 6.4 mph full throttle and 5.6 mph at 50-60% throttle. Do not expect it to perform like a 3HP gas OB, RPMs are much too low to get that speed performance... but you've probably already figured that out by now if you've done your research. Super quiet and enjoyable to use; I'd definitely buy it again.

Great outboard!

We love the outboard! It is so easy to use, has plenty of power for our 10 foot dinghy, and we will never go back to a gasoline operated outboard. The outboard is not intended for planing and fast zipping about, but is great otherwise. We also purchased the carry-bag set for the outboard and battery, which makes transporting of outboard to our boat easy and efficient. I wish we had made the switch to this electric outboard years ago.

Pudgy in San Diego

My Pudgy is the talk of the marina! Everybody wants a ride. Very stable, very durable and easy to recognize at the Dinghy dock. Unfortunately, my daughter has claimed it for her and her friends and now I'm short a Dinghy again.
