Q: Can I mount this on the front (bow) of my boat?
A:Yes! In fact, we highly recommend mounting your trolling motor on the bow for the best GPS tracking and spot-lock performance. While the AutoBoat system is designed to attach to "Transom Mount Style" clamp brackets, you can easily clamp that bracket to a flat lip or custom bracket on the front of your boat. It gives you the leading-edge pulling power of a Bow Mount motor without the massive, expensive fold-down scissor base!

Q: Is AutoBoat a traditional "Bow Mount" trolling motor?
A: No. Traditional bow mount motors (like a Minn Kota Terrova or Ultrex) use a heavy, slide-and-stow deployment base. The AutoBoat is a "Transom Mount Style" clamp-on system. We utilize this clamp design because it is lightweight, extremely portable, and requires zero drilling into your deck. You simply clamp it to the front of your boat, lock it down, and fish.

Q: What trolling motors are compatible with the AutoBoat Smart Head?

A: The AutoBoat adapter is engineered for 12V transom-mount trolling motors with a standard 1-1/8” shaft (30-55 lb thrust). Approved plug-and-play models include:

• Minn Kota: Endura C2, Endura MAX, and Riptide Series

• Newport Vessels: NV Series (36-55lb), X Series (55lb), Kayak Series, and Pontoon Series

• ProControll: 12V Trolling Motors

Note: It will also fit a Minn Kota Edge 12V Bow Mount, but this requires our specific AutoBoat Modification Kit. 

Q: Do I need to buy a separate fishfinder or screen to use the GPS Anchor?
A: Not at all. The GPS technology is built entirely into the AutoBoat Smart Head unit. There is no need to network it to an expensive marine chartplotter. You control your Spot-Lock anchor, heading lock, and route tracking entirely through the included wireless Smart Remote (300-ft range) or the free AutoBoat Pro mobile app for iOS and Android.

Q: Will the GPS Anchor Mode drain my 12V battery?

A: The AutoBoat is highly efficient. When Spot-Lock is engaged, the motor does not run continuously. The internal GPS monitors your position and only throttles the motor to correct your drift. If it is a calm day, the motor will barely run. If you are fighting heavy wind or current, it will draw more power to keep you pinned to your spot.

Q: Is the installation process difficult?
A: Installation is incredibly DIY-friendly. You do not need to be a marine mechanic. The process involves removing your factory twist-tiller head, slipping on the AutoDrive mechanical steering coupler, sliding the sealed AutoBoat Smart Head onto the shaft, and making your wire connections. Most builders complete the upgrade in under an hour and are on the water the same day.

Q: Will adding AutoBoat void my trolling motor’s original warranty?

A: Yes. Because you are removing the factory head unit and tiller handle from your Minn Kota or Newport Vessels motor, it will void the original manufacturer's warranty. However, your new AutoBoat Smart Head system is backed by a 6-month non-transferable warranty, serviced directly out of our AutoBoat USA center in Oxford, GA.

Q: Can I use the AutoBoat in saltwater?
A: The AutoBoat Smart Head is sealed and built with high-resistance nylon gears and robust components. However, to safely use it in saltwater environments, you must install it on a saltwater-rated trolling motor lower unit, such as the Minn Kota Riptide series. Installing it on a standard freshwater motor (like an Endura) and using it in saltwater will corrode the base motor.
